Sharpening Your Trust Edge

Starbucks get it. Every new employee that dons a green shirt in coffee heaven quickly learns one truism: We are not in the coffee business, serving people. We are in the people business serving coffee! That perspective holds true, no matter what your industry or profession is. We are all in the people business.

Because we at CCE are in the people business, we would like to tell you about some of the remarkable people we collaborate with in our coach training and curriculum trainings. In this this article, we want to introduce you to Dave Horsager, consultant, speaker, and owner of Horsager Leadership. Mary Verstraete met Dave in 2010 and was so impressed, inspired, and challenged by his message of trust that she wanted to share it with you.

We hope, after reading this excerpt from our interview with Dave, that you will order his book, The Trust Edge, for yourself.

Dave, what is the core message of your life?Horsager_HR

My core message is trust. The single uniqueness of the greatest leaders and organizations of all time is trust. We believe that trust is not a soft skill. For the trusted brand, people pay more, come back, and tell others. The trusted leader is the one who is followed. A lack of trust is a person's biggest expense. It doesn't matter if it's with your spouse, a friend, or a client. Where there is low trust, everything costs more, takes more time, and creates more stress. Being trusted and trusting God are most important.

What kind of people do you work with most?

Because The Trust Edge message has broad appeal and is relevant to most everyone, I have a broad audience. I have worked with everyone from the Department of Homeland Security, to Wells Fargo, to Mercy Medical Centers, to professional sports teams, to nonprofits, churches, and ministries. Though the audiences have varied, I typically work with managers, executives, and other professional in sales or leadership positions. It is most common for me personally to keynote conferences on The Trust Edge.

How is the methodology of coaching influenced how you do business?

There is overwhelming evidence that coaching, both alone and integrated with training improves employee development and allows the company to experience a quantifiable return. At Horsager Leadership, our Trust Edge 360 Program is an integrated blend of both training and coaching. Our key role for a coach is to help the client achieve more than thought possible. A performance coach helps clients to improve in areas of competency, skills and or/strengths in order to increase performance output. We guarantee that people who are part of our coaching or training program will build the eight Trust Edge Pillars into their lives and close gaps that gain them measureable results.

What did you learn from writing your book, The Trust Edge?

I started out of my graduate research asking what differentiates the greatest leaders and organizations of all time, and I found that trust was that single uniqueness. As I continued to research the topic, I uncovered eight pillars of trust that each of these organizations had in common . . . like clarity, character, and consistency. Through my research and writing, my conviction and passion grew.

When you look back over your time in business, what are you  most proud of?

Relationships and the imact this message has made both in businesses and people's lives.

What do you hope for in 2011?

Our goal is for more people to be reached by the message of trust. We hope that our book, The Trust Edge, will challenge and change workplaces and lives. Our mission is to create trusted leaders and organizations. Our vision is that 100 million people would be touched by The Trust Edge message.
